Should I buy a round dining table?
When considering what type of dining table and chairs to purchase one of your main decisions will centre around the shape of your dining table. The most popular shapes are rectangular, square and the round dining table. Whilst you can occasionally find irregular shapes like hexagons and octagons they are more the rarity than the usual rectangular, square and round shapes. So why should you consider a round dining table?
Round dining tables do have a few advantages. Firstly if space is a major consideration for you then a round table may be your very best option. Dining tables and chairs tend to take up a lot of space and dominate the room they occupy. One way of limiting their intrusion into a room is to buy a round dining table. This style of dining table effectively maximises space in a room. Without the sharp and bulky edges of a square or rectangular table they tend to make a smaller room feel less cramped. So if you are living in a home that requires efficient space usage then a round dining table may be your best option.
A second advantage is that round dining tables are generally more efficient than most dining room sets. Sometimes they come with a rotating centre piece that provides easy access to condiments or shared serves of food.
Aficionados of round dining tables say there is a third advantage and that is the strength of connection and closeness they bring to a dining experience. Fans say this is because of the fact that there is no head of the table as such. I am not too sure about this advantage but anything that promotes relationships around the meal time is a good thing in my opinion. As I’ve posted before the dining table is designed to be a meeting place not just an eating place.
When you begin your search for a round dining table a great place to start is online. The net provides a plethora of opportunities to discover different designs, materials and options as you start hunting for the perfect table for you. Also local home furnishing stores are brilliant in that you can see and touch various dining tables and chairs and thus begin to picture them in your own home. Personally I think it’s really worthwhile asking your friends what type of dining sets they use. There’s nothing like seeing a table in a home to get a feel for what will work for you.
